What have I been up to over the past few weeks?
I had my milestone meeting - a meeting with my thesis committee to discuss progress and plans for thesis write up. It was an interesting one!
I have been asked to become a student representative on a “Student Experience Task Group”. This is in addition to my roles on the Researcher Training Committee (RTC) and the Senatus Researcher Experience Committee (REC), but the topics covered during all of these meetings are nicely interlinked, so it’s actually useful to attend more than one.
It’s really interesting to see how these task groups and committees work and to know what happens behind the scenes. In one of the meetings we talked a lot about the culture in academia, the need to ensure that students (undergraduates and postgraduates) don’t feel like a nuisance, that they are valued and a part of the community.
